Bio

Thomas M. Anderson is an associate editor at Kiplinger’s Personal Finance. He specializes in writing about retirement planning and investing. He joined Kiplinger’s in 2006. Previously, Tom was an associate editor at Employee Benefit News. Earlier in his career, he worked as a reporter for the St. Louis Business Journal and ANG Newspapers, which include The Argus in Fremont, Calif., and The Oakland (Calif.) Tribune.  In California, he won an award from the local chapter of the Society of Professional Journalists for a series of articles he co-wrote about mortgage-lending practices. His work has appeared in the Columbia Journalism Review and Slate. Tom holds a bachelor’s degree in journalism from the University of Missouri. He was a 2008-2009 Knight-Bagehot fellow in economics and business journalism at Columbia University where he received his master’s degree in journalism. He lives on Capitol Hill in Washington, D.C., with his wife.
